  In-flight Broadcast Procedure (IFBP) to be applied in Mogadishu FIR

1 — Introduction

1.1 The purpose of this AIP Supplement is to detail In-Flight Broadcast Procedures (IFBP) to be applied while operating in Mogadishu FIR for enhanced safety.

2 — Requirement for IFBP

2.1 In addition to requirements published in AIP Supplements Sup13/2017, Sup16/2017 and Sup17/2017, the following further In-Flight Broadcast Procedures (IFBP), based on the IATA IFBP for AFI Region, are applicable to all flights operating within Mogadishu FIR

3 — Designated Watch

3.1 In the AFI Region, the designated frequency for the IFBP is 126.9 MHz

4 — Listening Watch

4.1 For an aircraft transiting the Mogadishu FIR, a listening watch should be maintained on the designated frequency, 126.9 MHz, 10 minutes before entering the Mogadishu FIR and maintained until exiting the airspace, whilst still maintaining communications with the relevant ATS units.
4.2 For an aircraft taking off from an aerodrome located in Somalia, a listening watch should start as soon as possible after departure and be maintained until leaving the airspace, whilst still maintaining communications with the relevant ATS units

5 — Time of Broadcast

5.1 Broadcasts should be made on the designated Frequency, 126.9 MHz, at least every 20 minutes, as well as in the following instances:
  1. 10 minutes before entering or crossing the FIR boundary
  2. 10 minutes before joining or crossing an ATS route and; UPON joining or crossing the ATS route
  3. 10 minutes before crossing any waypoint and; upon crossing
  4. Before any change in flight level and upon reaching the intended flight level;
  5. As soon as possible after departure from an aerodrome located within the Mogadishu FIR;
At any other time considered necessary by the pilot.
